Acknowledgement from the family of the late Gerard Murtagh.
Updated: Jan 2
The family of the late Gerry Murtagh (R.I.P.) wish to sincerely thank all of those who have shown sympathy during the sad loss of our dad. We realise these are strange times and it is difficult for our community not to be able to pay their respects in the traditional manner. However, we were always aware of the thoughts and prayers for daddy during his short illness, at the time of his death and in the period since. That kindness and support has been a great source of comfort.
We thank our relatives, neighbours, friends and community who supported us in many ways over the time of his death. We thank everyone who visited the house, telephoned, sent texts or online messages, sent sympathy cards, lined the funeral cortege route and joined us in the chapel via the internet. We also thank those who donated generously to St Vincent de Paul.
Special thanks are given to Fr. Doherty and Fr. O’Doherty for their spiritual support and celebration of requiem Mass. We also thank Hillary McKenna for her beautiful music throughout the service.
A special thank you also to Mickey Gormley and the staff from J.A Gormley Funeral Directors, Maghera for the support and the professional and dignified manner in which they carried out the funeral arrangements.
We would also like to publicly acknowledge our gratitude to all those who cared for daddy during his illness. All the healthcare staff were a credit to their profession as they ensured daddy was comfortable throughout.
We trust this acknowledgment will be taken by everyone as a token of our sincere appreciation and gratitude for all the kindness and support we received as a family.
The Month’s Mind Mass for Gerry was celebrated on Friday 1st January at 7:00pm in St Patrick’s Church, Glen, Maghera.
